Ashland is a small school, only 4,600 students, also ranked 223rd in the nation by US News and World Report. Some have accused smaller universities like this of trying to utilize esports as a publicity stunt, fortnite items sites and while sure, it might partly be a marketing tactic, I do not find any harm in it. These pupils are getting tuition money, then getting an instruction as a result. Nothing wrong with this, and I don't see why scholarships shouldn't be awarded for video games if the school is determined enough to set up a dedicated program for it. Why not? And no, I am not getting sucked in to this "are esports real sports?" Disagreement for the thousandth time, as I think it doesn't matter, buy fortnite weapons and the simple fact is that we exist in an age when colleges are ready to pay people to play with video games, and millions of people are watching these events live and online streams. Whatever esports "is," it is vital, and hugely pertinent to younger generations particularly.
